CTRY101 - Intro to Country Music

You probably think country music sucks…I used to think so also, until I actually listened to it!

One thing I’ve noticed is that Gen Z is kind of absorbed with being performative, more than they think. I say this because I was a victim. I listened to Indie-Pop, Emo-Pop, and strange Alternative genres. That’s not to say they weren’t good, but they were kind of depressing and often times subpar. You can’t really think that Kilby Girl is an amazing hit, can you? (Sorry if you do).

Country music, I think, is one of the realist genres out there. I’m not much for lyrics and never was, but country music changed that for me. A lot of the songs are about religion, romance, life, stress, and yes — beer and farms, but it makes me feel downright American. Filled with perfect acoustics, pleasing vocals, and the feeling of a stunning sunset, I think everyone is bound to try it out. If it’s not for you, no worries, but please, give it a chance.

To help you out, I’ve curated a very short playlist with some country classics and some pieces that really strike a chord within me. Some are popular, some are not, some are recent, some are not. But please do, try it.
